One room
A single bedroom or living room is a contained job: furniture out, vents closed, plastic up, texture soaked and scraped.
Typical cost in Tigard
Taking down a popcorn ceiling is simple until the texture contains asbestos. We test the texture first, then remove a positive ceiling under full containment and leave clean drywall behind for the finisher.
DEQ counts ceiling texture as friable. Removal is limited to licensed abatement contractors working inside a negative pressure enclosure, and DEQ must have the notice 10 days before work begins. We do ceilings in Tigard, King City and Durham.

A single bedroom or living room is a contained job: furniture out, vents closed, plastic up, texture soaked and scraped.
Ceilings across a house are planned room by room so the enclosure moves with the work. Areas sprayed separately are sampled separately.
Cutting a small hole for a fixture may fall under DEQ’s small-repair exemption: less than 3 square feet, part of a needed repair, and not done to remove asbestos. Anything bigger is a removal job.
Owners have one legal route to doing this themselves: the house is a single-unit home and they live in it. DEQ strongly advises hiring a licensed contractor anyway. Do-it-yourself waste still has to be double-bagged in 6-mil plastic, labeled, sent with a shipment form and taken to a landfill permitted for asbestos.
