Survey of the whole structure
Every suspect material in the building is sampled, from roof to floor. Owners who live in the house need an accredited inspector for this too.
Typical cost in Tigard
Before a house comes down, the asbestos has to be found and taken out. We arrange the whole-building survey, file the DEQ notices and clear the friable and nonfriable material so the demolition can follow.
Tigard adopted Municipal Code Chapter 14.24 in 2026 to keep regulating demolition permits. We handle pre-demolition asbestos work in Tigard, King City and Durham.

Friable material, such as ceiling texture or pipe insulation, has to come out before demolition, and only a DEQ-licensed abatement contractor may remove it, 10 days after DEQ has the notice. Even an owner who lives in the house can’t do this part.
Intact siding, roofing and floor tile can come off after a five-day notice. Pieces are kept whole and wet so they stay nonfriable on the way to the landfill.
Oregon law lets a city ask for the asbestos survey and the abatement notice before a demolition. Ask Tigard’s Building Division what it wants with your application, and keep the survey ready either way.
Before a fire department burns a structure for training, it needs an asbestos survey and report, and all asbestos must be removed first.
